Posture
Pretend you are reading this and neon lights are flashing and smiling dancing ferries are dancing around the screen encouraging you to prioritize your posture! Get the idea that we think this is huge! You are with yourself 24 hours a day. It makes sense to try and make the body you are in that whole time move as efficiently as possible. For those of you thinking "I have been like this my whole life, it won't change". Stop. It can and it will, if you consider it. You are changeable until the day you leave this earth, including your nervous system that helps initiate your posture. This is called plasticity. Two things may be happening (amongst others). You either have been in a habit of movement and don't realize how far away from neutral you are, or you have a mechanical reason your body can't get you to neutral. The first is more easily addressable. The second reason might encourage you to get checked out by a Physical Therapist or other appropriate practitioner, to work on addressing this issue. Neutral posture means you standing in a relaxed and upright position. Your knees are stacked over your ankles, hip over knees, shoulders over hips, and ears over shoulders. This is simplifying things but can go a long way. Consider the visual of all your parts we just mentioned being blocks in a Jenga game. Or just stacked blocks. You don't want the middle block to be sticking out because it makes the stability of the structure weak and unsteady. Stack your blocks. Ask a Floor Attendant to help guide you on how to address your posture. Some things to consider are Posture Exercises. Often times we need to open our chest and front of our hips up. Check out "Thoracic Extension" exercises or try the TRUE Stretch machine. In addition learn how to initiate our "trueCORE" for stability. The "Core Progression" exercise is a good one for this. Working on "Rows" and other pulling exercises with our arms can be a big help. This is a general guide but it woudl be well worth your time to go over your posture with a knowledgable practitioenr.
