Ball Handling for Mobility and Balance
This movement combines a lot of wonderful elements including balance, strength, weight shifting, range of motion, and motor control! Start by taking a ball or some object in front of your chest holding on to it with both hands. At first keep your eyes straight ahead to help your balance then work toward following the ball as you move. To start the action move the ball with both hands up behind your right ear, around the back of your head toward your left ear. Now continue in front of you bringing the ball to the right side of your waist. Switch to one hand to bring the ball around your back to the left side. Now the ball is in your left hand at your side and your are going to prepare your strong spine, soften your knees and hinge at your hips as you bring the ball between your legs moving toward the back of your right leg. As you have shifted your weight on to your right leg, switch the ball to your right hand. From there bring the ball around to the front, and weave back in the middle to the back of your left leg. As you weight shift to your left leg switch the ball to your left hand and bring back to the start. The wider your stance the more weight shift and bending you will do. Play with your foot position. Reverse the pattern. Try watching the ball with your eyes as you move in the pattern.
